To ease our cardiac exercise and to make it more efficient, treadmill came into the fitness scene a long time back. Initially there was the manual one, but with passing years, treadmills got upgraded into automatic and motorized. There are certain cons regarding both the manual and the motorized treadmills but when it comes to motorized treadmill, the efficiency and the effectivity are way far ahead than the former.
Generalising the two kinds of treadmills
The walking strip or the belt is moved by the person alone. It moves as the person moves. The Manual Treadmill represents a rugged construction and it requires more effort from the user than the motorized ones.
The belt is set in motion but a motor. It does not require the user to strain to start the treadmill into motion. The motorized treadmills keep pace with the changing technology and is getting packed with numerous features. The bigger the motor used for the motorized treadmill, the more speed can be attained and so will be its efficiency.
Manual Treadmill vs Motorized Treadmill
Intensity of workout
It is generally used for high–intensity workouts. Those who are not accustomed with manual ones, may experience joint stress while initially straining against the belt. It requires a lot of muscle power. Also, the power to be applied also depends on the weight of the user. Lighter weighted users will have to apply more strength to overcome the resistance.
The intensity of the workout can be measured and controlled in amotorized treadmill. The belt is set to move by a motor so, the question of straining one’s muscle does not arise. The seed of the belt can be adjusted and so it can be used for a longer time when compared with a manual treadmill.
This type of treadmills does not come with much features. They are generally powered by battery and comes with general features like the distance covered, calories burnt, current speed and the elapsed time. The inclination of the walking belt cannot be changed or adjusted while the treadmill is in motion. Manual treadmills only come in two variants– the flat belt manual treadmill and the curved belt manual treadmill.
The motorized treadmill comes with a lot of features that include heart rate monitoring, BP monitoring, built-in workouts, remote app and many more, including the general data such as distance covered, calories burnt etc. This type of treadmill goes on systematic upgradation and provides the utmost ease for most of the users. The incline level of the belt can be adjusted according to the user while in the motion.
Manual treadmill is suitable for training sprint intervals and practising uphill walking. Most of the manual treadmills are suitable for walking only. Practising running may put a lot of unneeded strains on the muscles. Unlike the flat belt manual treadmill, the curved belt provides a bit better efficiency in running. It is recommended for short workouts.
Automatic treadmill provides the ground for a wide range of intensity for workouts. It can be efficient for walking and can also be the same for running. On amotorizedtreadmill, one can test their stamina through long endurance sessions. Having a motor, these treadmills are heavy and provides stronger ground grips than the manual ones.
The overall function of the non–motorized treadmills is manual. The machines start and stops according to the user. There is no use of electricity so there is not question of electrocution. Safety measures are minimal and can even be used by children. Although the user must be careful about the belt slippage as it can be common in the manual treadmills.
The motor runs on electricity. So, the user should be careful about this fact. A safety cord is a must in a motorized treadmill for the user have high chances of falling on one side for the running belt cannot be stopped then and there.
The flat belt variant is the cheapest one. A lot of options are there under $300. Although the curved belt variant is costlier and can go up to$3,000.
Unlike the manual ones, the motorized treadmills are costlier for they have a motor. The standard ranges start from $1,000. The difference between the different variants can be seen in the features provided by individual models.
In a manual treadmill, you will push your limit. In a motorized treadmill, it will push your limit.
